To say yesterday was a long day was putting it mildly. Spay neuter appointments, drives to and from queens, regular vet appointments, and a full time job.. phew 😮‍💨 We’re eagerly awaiting the day when #uppermanhattan has its very own low cost clinic to support the community and animals already here. In the meantime, with the support of incredible volunteers, we carry on.

We don’t actually let the cats walk all over us! But sometimes having a #foster #cat who wants to hang out on our shoulders (and laps and in our arms) is a nice little change.

Not every cat is a #lapcat and that’s okay! We love all the cats who come into our care, even the ones who don’t want to be around us at all (see previous post about Waffles!) However, even the most seasoned rescuers can admit when someone a little special comes into the fold and warms your heart even more.

Fostering can be challenging but it is also one of the very best ways to get to meet as many cats as you want! We have some fosters who are close to hitting triple digits! Whether you’re just getting started or have been in the game for a while, #fosteringsaveslives❤️ and becoming a foster is one of the best ways to get involved.

Ida was adopted by her incredible person @chasekirshner last fall but Chase liked us so much she has kept fostering! Ida is also an excellent welcome crew and very happy to have new buddies to show the ropes!

#fostering even when you already have a single resident cat is not only do-able it can be a win win for everyone! Marcus came from a home with lots of other cats, so having another kitty in the house makes him a bit more comfortable and at ease! Ida gets to continue her socialization with other cats, and we continue to have the much needed placement for cats coming into our care! While we do know some cats are truly #solo folks, many cats really benefit from having another buddy around! All it takes is a meaningful and slow introduction!

The first unofficial 10 Lives Rescues were Henry, Hudson, and Hopewell. A mom and 2 kittens who were abandoned on the side of the highway.

It took a whole village of folks to make this rescue happen, and then it took our even bigger village to foster and eventually find them their forever homes. But one year later and we’re so so happy to be here and grateful for everyone who helped us get here.

Georgie was rescued over the summer from an absolutely horrific living situation (swipe to the last video to see!). Once in foster he showed us that despite his grotesque beginnings he was actually an incredibly sweet boy! And he found his forever person in January!

His adopter, @aud_pow writes “Georgie is the absolute sweetest boys! We are doing so well. He is such a love bug it is the best. He is the perfect boy for me.” Truly what more could you ask for!

We have some new additions in the house - Mama Easel and her three absolutely adorable #kittens - Charcoal, Graphite, and Cray Pas are already up to nonsense over at chez @saranaomiphoto ! Mama Easel is as sweet as can be and a young lady ready to tell her kittens to take a hike! Her kittens are absolutely adorable and have us giggling away because if there is one thing young kittens get up to.. it’s Shenanigans!!

Bunny was rescued by @southbkcatlady from the outdoors where he was locally known as sneezy because he had such a terrible URI. When he was rescued you could actually hear how hard it was for him to breathe through his congestion. Bunny is now inside and an absolutely adorable love bug!

His foster @hannahkoh_ writes “Bunnie aka Bun Bun is a true foodie! This mindfulness master will gently take treats from your hands and loves to share his meals with you!”

Bunny is looking for his forever homes where he can enjoy the comforts of indoor life for the rest of his! #adoptdontshop❤️ #voidcat

I saw a post that said “the love I have for this creature, even though we’ve never shared a conversation” and that touched us. But more than that, it got me thinking. In some ways, maybe we have shared conversations.

Because of Meredith’s care (and a little help from 10 Lives) this sweet boy is now living it up inside and scheduled for his very own dental in just a few weeks! #rescue #rescuecatsofinstagram

A four-year old tabby, he’s good at respecting boundaries if you respect his, he loves chasing balls, and gives the cutest expressions when he feels loved. We think he would be great with other cats or even a friendly dog as he is begging for attention from our resident cat.

#happytales #tuesdaytails coming to you today! With the story of Crunchwrap (fka Sol)! Sol was rescued from a bodega where she was not wanted and not cared for! Her adopter writes,

“We had been talking about fostering cats for years, so we were very excited to finally move into a pet friendly apartment. Sol (or Crunchwrap, to some of her friends) was our first foster and we failed sooooo fast. She’s a perfect roommate: an extroverted, polite, and happily retired bodega cat whose favorite activity is sitting on our laps as much as she possibly can. It didn’t take long to figure out that we simply had to keep her around— we missed her anytime we left the apartment, and our camera rolls were quickly filling up with cat photos. She had come to us shortly after Thanksgiving and we adopted her by Christmas.

Since then, every morning when she hears the alarm go off, she crawls up from her bedtime spot by our feet and flops over next to us for some morning cuddles. We love Sol so much— she is a joy to be around. How fortunate we are to “foster fail.””
